Do You Know What Today Is?

It’s Purim.

Do you know what Purim is?

It is a Jewish holiday that celebrates the defeat of Haman’s plot to kill the Jews in the book of Esther.  God used Queen Esther in a great way to save her people from destruction.

I am not Jewish, but this celebration is neat on many levels.  I love the celebration of anything that shows God’s redemption and salvation.  I think this is something that even Christians can celebrate today.  I also love how God uses an unlikely candidate.  God choose Esther out among many women to save His people.

My favorite verse from the book of Esther is Esther 4:14

"For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place and you and your father's house will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?"

In the book of Esther and today destruction comes from the same place, sin.  Our sin separates us from God, but God sent a rescuer to deliver people from this sin and separation.

Deliverance has come to us in the person of Jesus Christ.   He went head on with satan and our personal sin to rescue us from destruction and separation from God.  God allows us a choice, we will only be rescued if we want to be.   Christ draws men to Himself but does not force us to salvation.  It is a free gift that requires faith and trust in the person of Christ and His work on the cross.

To celebrate the great salvation that Purim represents, I have a created a free printable.

Today, celebrate with me the salvation that God has brought to our lives.
