Resurrection Eggs

A friend of mine gave me a set of Resurrection Eggs this week.  Making this project had been on my to do list this week but  I hadn't gotten around to it.  I was so thrilled to receive this as a gift that I just had to share it with you. These are super easy to make.  You will need...

  • An empty egg carton

  • 12 colorful eggs

  • a paper or papers that explain what each item represents.  My friend put these in an envelope to keep them organized.

  • items to go in each egg...

  1. A small donkey or picture of one - Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey.  The people waved palm branches. Matthew 21:1-11

  2. A cotton ball with perfume - Mary poured expensive perfume on Jesus' feet.  John 12:2-3

  3. A cup - Jesus shared the Last Supper with His disciples.  Matthew 26:17-19

  4. 3 Silver coins (dimes or nickles) - Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.   Matthew 27:3

  5. A cross - Jesus carried His own cross - John 19:17

  6. Small thorny branch - Soldiers placed a crown of thorns of Jesus' head.  John 19:2

  7. Single die - Soldiers parted Jesus' garments and cast lots for His coat.  John 19:23

  8. A nail - Jesus was nailed to a cross and pierced in His side.  John 19:18, 37 and John 20:25-29

  9. A small sponge - They gave Jesus vinegar mixed with gall on a sponge to drink.  Matthew 27:34

  10. Cloves - Spices to prepare Jesus for burial.  John 19:40

  11. A small rock - The stone covering Jesus' tomb was rolled away.  John 20:1

  12. Empty - The empty egg reminds us of the empty tomb and Jesus' resurrection from the dead.  Matthew 28:5-8

Next year we are going to open one egg a day until Easter.  This way we can focus more on each egg instead of trying to go through all the eggs at one time.  Happy Easter!! Thank you Lisa so much for this wonderful gift!!!
