Weight Loss Journey Continued

Everyone has tips for losing weight and I am certainly not a pro, but I want to share with you a couple of things that I learned in the last 6 months that have helped me tremendously on my weight loss journey.

I have already shared the number one key to weight loss in a previous post.  If you missed that post you can go here to read it - http://www.thebloggingpastorswife.blogspot.com/2012/01/biggest-result-of-my-weight-loss.html

Accountability

I have shared in an earlier post that I have the most awesome accountability partner ever.  Lisa and I started this journey last July.  We both shared similar struggles but didn't know much about each other.  We met first thing to determine how and when we would keep each other accountable.  Everyone is different but we decided to keep each other accountable daily through texts and emails.  This was such an encouragement to me and was a huge key to my weight loss.

When choosing an accountability partner there are a couple things to keep in mind.

1.  It is very Biblical.   Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 says,  "Two are better than one,  Because they have a good reward for their labor.  For if they fall, one will lift up his companion.  But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up.  Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm;  But how can one be warm alone?  Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him.  And a threefold cord is not quickly broken."
Accountability helps on the really hard day when you just don't want too.  Or on that day when nothing seems to go right and the first thing you reach for is food.  For me, when I knew that Lisa would see everything that entered my mouth...I would put the brakes on.  We lifted each other up and really got to know one another.  She has now become a great friend.

2. It is important who you choose for an accountability partner.  You want to choose someone who will actually keep you accountable.  You want someone who will pray for you and help you in a loving way.  Your spouse might not be the best person to keep you accountable in this area and that is okay.  I found that Mark and I weren't good accountability partners in the food area.  We wound up having too many splurge days.  :)

3. Encouragement.  If accountability isn't encouraging then it will not last.  Make sure you find someone who will be encouraging, and make sure you are also an encouragement to your accountability partner.   Lisa has been such an encouragement in every way.  One morning I woke up to find verses taped all over our car.  She has been such a blessing and encouragement to me along this journey.

4. Honesty - Accountability only works if both sides are honest.

Daily Evaluation

Daily Evaluation is such an important key to weight loss.  Lisa and I emailed each other every day and still do.   Not only did we report our food, water, and exercise we also reported Bible study, prayer, praises, and struggles.   No journey is complete without God's Word and prayer so we added that to the evaluation.  This evaluation has been an awesome tool for my weight loss.  It has also been a wonderful way to look back at my day and see what needed changing for the next day.

I have added a printable evaluation chart for you to use.  I have created four different colors to chose from, but you will have to click on the link to see the other colors.  I do not have the software capabilities (yet) to do everything I would like, but I know that comes with time.  Click on the link below the image to print.

If you are struggling with losing weight find an accountability partner and set aside time for daily evaluation.  These things have been key factors in my weight loss journey.

Good Night,
Valerie
