Ladies Wednesday Night Bible Study Week Three On Priscilla
Priscilla or Prisca
The last two weeks we have been focusing on women from the
Old Testament. This week we will be
studying a New Testament believer. Her
name is Priscilla, also known as Prisca.
Bible Gateway is a great resource on both Priscilla and her
husband Aquila. This is what is says
about their names:
“Priscilla is the diminutive of Prisca,
feminine of Prisca meaning “primitive,” hence, “worthy, or venerable,” as
belonging to the good old time. This name is also found as a family name in the
earliest Roman annals, and appears in the form “Prisca” in Paul’s Second Epistle
to Timothy (2 Timothy 4:19).
Cruden says Priscilla means “ancient, old-fashioned simplicity.” It is also
interesting to note that Aquila, Priscilla’s husband, had the family name of
the commander of a legion, for it means “eagle”—emblem of the Roman army. Both
names are Roman. From the prominence given in Roman inscriptions and legends to
the name Prisca it is concluded that she belonged to a distinguished Roman
family.”
Read each of the passages where both Priscilla and her
husband Aquila are mentioned. Write down
anything that you learn from these passages.
Romans 16:3-5
1 Corinthians 16:19-20
2 Timothy 4:19
Acts 18 (the whole chapter)
Even though these passages always mention Priscilla and
Aquila together let’s make both application on marriage, but also on her as a
women. There are women that are not married that can gain great application from Priscilla.
very nice study!!
