Both of the cards shown are so simple to make using a paper piecing technique. The kids sat down with me during an awesome thunderstorm on Saturday to make these fun cards.
Paper piecing is a technique using only paper, scissors, and ink to make fun creatures. It is so simple. Most animals can be put together using circles, ovals, triangles, and rectangles.
Card Recipe:
I am going to show you how to make this chick first...
Start by drawing a simple sketch of each shape; a circle, two hearts, a cursive m, a figure eight and a half circle connected by zigzags. As you can see I cannot draw, but it comes together in the end.
Cut each shape out
Ink the edges with an orange color ink or chalk. I think chalk gives the image a softer depth, but it can get messy depending on different factors :) You can use the figure eight as eyes or you can draw eyes like I did in mine below. Lexi used the figure eight on her chick.
Glue the pieces together how you think best. Keep in mind that it doesn't have to be perfect. Everyone's piece will turn out different.
Place the chicks on the card base and stamp a sentiment. I am always in need of thank you cards so most of my cards turn out this way. Also, you can add depth to a card by inking the edges of the card. You can see the difference below.
The other card I want to show you is a bunny card.
Draw a large circle, a small circle, two ovals, and two small flower silhouettes.
Cut each shape out.
Ink the edges in black for depth, and glue together as you think best. The tails can also be made out of cotton balls instead of paper.
Place the finished bunny on a card and add sentiment.
The finished products...Happy Easter!

- 8 Card bases - We used blue for the chicks, and pink for the bunnies
- 4 3x3 pieces of yellow paper
- 8 3x3 pieces of white paper
- 4 very small pieces of orange paper
- Ink or chalk (I prefer chalk for edges, but with children it can be very messy)
- Scissors
- Glue tape runner (the cheapest are found at Walmart called Adtek)
- Stamp for sentiment
